Each registered domain name has a minimum of 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain address to the servers of a particular website hosting company. This way, you've got both your site and your e-mails handled by the very same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there are a number of other records, such as A and MX. The former shows which server manages the website for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server manages the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, any time you enter a domain name in your browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of a different company if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having separate records for the site and the e-mails suggests that you can have your site and your e-mails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting package from our company, you will be able to see, create and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. Assuming that a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to modify particular records through our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your site or e-mails directed to any other provider if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool will even permit you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain at all. If you choose to use the e-mail services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do that with just a few clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can even set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you'll be able to see and change the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains you host inside the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you'll get to manage the account, offers an advanced, albeit easy-to-use tool where all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to change their records with no more than a couple of mouse clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it's going to be equally easy - choose the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you'll be all set. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records that you create in case you decide to use a third-party email provider and they ask you to create additional records besides the two standard ones. If you encounter any troubles, you will find a comprehensive Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to setup or edit any record.
